Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

I want to provide a brief update on the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY’27) budgets.

This has been a challenging budget cycle. At this time, all indications from town boards and committees suggest that both communities will avoid the need for an override for this year. At the same time, both towns anticipate that an override may be necessary next year, as the financial outlook, like many communities', remains challenging.

All three School Committees have now voted on their finalized budgets:

Northborough PreK-8: 6.96%
Southborough PreK-8: 3.99%
Northborough-Southborough Regional School District: 5.89%

(The request from each town was to keep the FY’27 budget to a 3% increase.)

The next step is Town Meeting approval. I strongly encourage parents and guardians to attend and participate, whether in support or not. Community participation in this process is essential.

Southborough Town Meeting: Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM @ Trottier Middle School
Northborough Town Meeting: Monday, April 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM @ AAlgonquin Regional High School

While these budgets allow us to maintain core programming and the overall student experience, the financial pressures require difficult decisions. Across the Districts, the FY’27 budgets reflect a net reduction of 15.9 positions. Where possible, these reductions were achieved through retirements, attrition, restructuring, and careful realignment.

Throughout this process, the districts’ and school committees’ focus remained clear: protecting class sizes, preserving the student experience, and maintaining the high-quality staff and programming that our families expect.

The districts remain committed to supporting every student and continuing to provide a strong educational experience across the ten schools.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
