Extended School Year Services (ESY)
Program models are created to organize students who may require similar remedial instruction for ESY. Each child is considered individually based on review of data. ESY services are considered at a Team meeting. Specific supports may be customized for a student according to his/her/their school team’s recommendation(s).
ESY Dates for the Summer of 2026 are as follows:
7 Week Program: 7/7/26 - 8/20/26
5 Week Program: 7/7/26-8/6/26

This model is designed to provide academic remediation and skill maintenance to
students who require ESY services to prevent substantial regression in the areas of Math, Reading, and Language Arts. Support in other curriculum content areas may be provided as well.
Instruction is provided by DESE certified special education teachers, related service providers and special education aides. Instruction is provided to students in small groups (2-4 students) large groups (8-12 students) and individually.
The ARHS Academic ESY Program is implemented for up to five weeks, two days per week, Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:00 AM -2:00 PM during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP. -

In addition, students who are recommended for the ARHS Academic/Pragmatics program model require remediation and skill maintenance in the social pragmatics, social skills and/or sensory, emotional regulation goals on their IEPs.
Instruction is provided by DESE certified special education teachers, related service providers and special education aides. Instruction is provided to students in small groups (2-4 students) large groups (8-12 students) and individually. The Academic/Pragmatics program models are designed for students at similar grade levels to facilitate social interactions and positive peer relationships. The program model follows a daily schedule with theme based instruction and a structure that allows for individual, customization of remediation when
recommended.
The ARHS Academic/Social Pragmatic ESY program is implemented for up to five weeks, three days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, from 9:00 AM -2:00 PM during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP. -
Students 18-22 years of age who are enrolled in Algonquin’s Community Access Program may require ESY services to prevent substantial regression and maintain skills that are delineated in the goal areas of their IEPs. CAP programming will continue to focus on Activities of Daily Living, Pre-Vocational and Vocational Programming, Social Communication/Social Pragmatics, Self-Advocacy and Functional Academic skills.
Instruction will be provided by DESE certified special education teachers, related service providers, vocational counselors, transition specialist(s), guidance counselors and/or adjustment counselors. Special education aides also support students receiving C.A.P. ESY services.
CAP students may have customized schedules based on their vocational work responsibilities. The program model will be implemented for up to five weeks, three days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, 9:00AM to 2:00 PM during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP. -
Students who have social pragmatics, social skills, self-advocacy or social communication goals on their IEPs may require ESY services to prevent substantial regression in this domain.
ESY social pragmatics programming is designed to provide remediation and the opportunity for students to maintain skills within peer groups of similar grades. Typically, students who are recommended for ESY social pragmatics participate in enrichment programs with typically developing peers. Students will engage in experiential learning through hands on activities with direct social skill coaching
with a DESE certified teacher. The Social Pragmatic Program is implemented for up to five weeks, two days per week, Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:00-11:00 during the summer month. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP. -
Students enrolled in the District’s school-year TLC-II programs are consistently recommended for ESY programming due to the nature and complexity of their disabilities. Due to their disability, an interruption of specialized instruction during the summer months would likely result in substantial regression across all goal areas and developmental domains.
During the ESY sessions, students are instructed the goals listed in their IEPs. Instruction is provided in small groups (4-6 students) and individually by DESE certified special education teachers, related service providers and special education aides. Students are enrolled in TLC-II classrooms in similar grades. The TLC-II ESY program model is implemented for up to seven weeks, three days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your
child’s IEP. -
This model is designed to provide academic remediation and skill maintenance to students who require ESY services in the areas of Math and English Language Arts. Instruction is provided by DESE certified teacher. Students are recommended for this program because their IEP Teams recommend ESY to prevent substantial regression in the IEP goal areas of Math or English Language Arts.
The program model is five weeks, two days per week, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-2pm during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP.

Students enrolled in the District’s school-year NECC Partnership programs are consistently recommended for ESY programming due to the nature and complexity of their disabilities. Due to their disability an interruption of specialized instruction during the summer months would likely result in substantial regression across all goal areas and developmental domains.
As during the school year, the ESY program will be a partnership between the New England Center for Children and the NSBORO Public Schools. The program will be based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Students will receive 1:1 direct instruction from educational support professionals, who are familiar with autism and trained in the techniques of Applied Behavior Analysis. Educational
support professionals are supervised by an on-site, Master’s level certified special education teacher and the classroom will receive consultative services from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Students are instructed in the goals listed in their IEPs. Consistent with the school year, instruction is delivered in both 1:1 and small group settings.
The NECC Partnership ESY program model is implemented for seven weeks, four days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM during the summer months.The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP. -
Students who are enrolled in the District’s half day Preschool Program may be recommended for ESY services to prevent substantial regression on IEP goals. ESY services are provided three mornings (9:00AM -11:00AM) or three afternoons (12:00PM – 2:00PM) per week for five weeks during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP.
Students enrolled in the full day Preschool classrooms are recommended for ESY programming due to the nature and complexity of their disabilities. There is a consensus and recognition that an interruption of specialized instruction during the summer months would likely result in substantial regression across all goal areas and developmental domains.
The full day Preschool classrooms are typically implemented Tuesday–Thursday from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM, for seven weeks during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP. Instruction in both program models is provided by DESE certified special education teachers, teachers, related service providers and special education aides. -
Related Services (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech/Language, Counseling)
ESY services may be recommended for students across the District who receive related services as part of their IEPs. Remediation is provided to students to prevent substantial regression in specific goal areas of their IEPs. Therapists and/or providers will consider ESY for their students at the Team meeting.
Students who are recommended for ESY therapy for related services (only) will schedule those services individually with the therapist providing the ESY service. Therapists will contact parents in June/July to schedule recommended sessions. If a student is receiving ESY services through a program model, therapists will work to access students during the program model hours in order to remediate the related
service domain.
Related Services are typically provided over a five week period during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP. -
ESY services may be recommended for students across the District who receive Specialized Reading as part of their IEPs. Remediation is provided to students to prevent substantial regression in specific goal areas of their IEPs. Service providers will consider ESY for their students at the Team meeting.
Students who are recommended for ESY Specialized Reading will schedule those services individually with the provider providing the ESY service. Parents will be contacted in June/July to schedule recommended sessions. If a student is receiving ESY services through a program model, providers will work to access students during the program model hours in order to remediate the Specialized Reading
domain.
Specialized Reading is typically provided over a five week period during the summer months. The dates for Extended School Year instruction are included in your child’s IEP.
