Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s), FY27 School Budgets Update - What You Should Know: As we plan for the 2026-2027 school year, each of our three districts (Northborough PreK-8, Southborough PreK-8, and the Northborough-Southborough Regional District) have developed Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) budget proposals. Across all three, our goal remains the same: maintain strong schools, protect student opportunities, and support high-quality teaching, while also responding to rising mandated costs. Northborough PreK–8 Superintendent Recommended Fiscal Year 2027 (FY’27) Budget FY27 Budget: $32.31 million Increase Over FY26: 7.75% Maintains class sizes and student programming Reduces approximately $1.79 million from early requests (including 8.4 positions, supplies, and curriculum materials) The FY27 Recommended Budget will be presented at the February school committee meeting, after further collaboration. Southborough PreK–8 Superintendent Recommended Fiscal Year 2027 (FY’27) Budget FY27 Budget: $26.03 million Increase Over FY26: 3.67% Maintains level services for students Keeps class sizes and core programming intact Reduced more than $2 million during development Uses state Circuit Breaker reimbursement to offset rising costs Several positions (Neary Spanish, Elementary ITS, and an Elementary Library role) are deferred, but the proposal continues to support our mission to educate, inspire, and challenge all learners. The FY27 Recommended Budget will be presented at the February school committee meeting, after further collaboration. Northborough-Southborough Regional School District Revised Preliminary Fiscal Year 2027 (FY’27) Budget FY27 Revised Preliminary Budget: $32.36 million Increase Over FY26: 8.98% Maintains level services and class sizes Protects staffing and student opportunities Responds to significant cost increases in tuition, transportation, and health insurance Includes capital needs and debt obligations for the building The FY27 Revised Preliminary Budget will be presented at the School Committee’s January 21, 2026, meeting. The FY27 Recommended Budget will be presented in February, after further collaboration and following the Governor's release of the state’s FY27 budget on January 23, 2026. School districts statewide are experiencing increases in the cost of essential and mandated services for students, as well as higher costs for health insurance and staffing. These investments enable us to meet the needs of our students and comply with state requirements. We appreciate the ongoing partnership of families and our two communities as we work to sustain strong schools and outstanding student experiences. Gregory L. Martineau Superintendent of Schools |

Flu Signs and Symptoms |
The District has seen an increase in the number of confirmed flu and influenza-like illnesses in the past week. Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs.
We recommend closely monitoring for symptoms. Symptoms usually appear 2-3 days after exposure. If symptomatic, please stay home and contact the school nurse. Flu signs and symptoms typically develop suddenly. If you have concerns about any symptoms or if you have any underlying chronic health conditions, please contact your healthcare provider immediately.
People who are sick with the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
Fever*/feeling feverish or chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Headaches
Fatigue (tiredness)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
**It’s important to note that not everyone with the flu will have a fever.
Please continue to inform the school nurse of any flu diagnosis (or any other respiratory illness), and please follow our District Illness Guidelines for return to school criteria.
After having the flu or an influenza-like illness, to return to school, both the following must be true: the fever must be free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and the individual must have the stamina to participate in an entire school day.
Please continue to promote good hygiene and healthy habits.
Good hygiene: Encourage regular hand washing, cough/sneeze into your elbow, and avoid touching your face/mouth, especially during cold and flu season, to reduce the spread of germs.
Healthy habits: Ensure you get enough rest, eat a balanced diet, and stay hydrated to strengthen your immune system.
