This spring, 676 families and caregivers across The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough participated in our Family & Caregiver Survey. Thank you for taking the time to share your perspectives, ideas, and experiences. Your feedback is essential to the District’s ongoing work of educating, inspiring, and challenging every learner.
What We Heard: Positive School Experiences: Families report high levels of satisfaction with teaching and learning. Over 90% of respondents feel their child is known by teachers as a learner, and 88% are satisfied with the teaching and learning at their child’s school.
District Values & Vision: Families strongly connect with our Portrait of a Graduate—particularly the focus on developing students as Critical and Creative Thinkers, Collaborators, and Communicators. Inclusivity, Respect, and Integrity were highlighted as the District’s strongest values, while Inclusivity and Perseverance were seen as areas for continued growth. Partnerships & Trust: Families report strong levels of relational trust. More than 90% feel supported, welcomed, and respected in their interactions with schools and teachers.
Family Involvement: Families are actively engaged—attending events, following school news, and communicating with teachers. The most common barrier to even greater involvement is time. Families shared that offering more flexible opportunities (including virtual options and surveys) would help.
Communication: Email and newsletters are the most widely used and preferred forms of communication. Families generally feel that the amount and frequency of communication is appropriate, and they rate its importance very highly.
What’s Next Your input helps shape our work. Based on the survey, we will continue to: Strengthen inclusive practices so that every student feels recognized and supported. Expand flexible and accessible opportunities for family engagement. Ensure communication is clear, coordinated, and responsive to family preferences.
The District appreciates your partnership and ongoing commitment to our students and schools. Together, we are building a community where every student feels a sense of belonging and is prepared for success in school and beyond.
Respectfully, Gregory L. Martineau Superintendent of Schools
