Superintendent's Weekly Update: Friday, November 5, 2021

As I look ahead to November, I am reminded that it is a busy month: parent-teacher conferences, holidays, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving. This week I had an opportunity to learn more about the holiday Diwali from families and students. I learned that Hindus interpret the Diwali story based upon where they live and that there's one common theme no matter where people celebrate: the victory of good over evil. I also learned that Diwali is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians. Diwali also gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects them from spiritual darkness.
