We Need Your Partnership - Traveling Over Vacation (Dr. Safdar Medina)

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

Thank you to all of our families for their commitment to our collective well being this year. It is hard to believe that February Vacation is already upon us.

This is a week where we all typically treasure family time and many choose to travel. Covid-19 has altered the landscape, but we can still create special memories with our children.

It is vital, now more than ever, that we continue to adhere to our effective public health measures.

There are plenty of outdoor activities children of all ages can enjoy in our state. Be it hiking, sledding, snowshoeing, or skiing, the safest thing is to do it with members of your household only. If people from different households get together, they need to stay masked and distanced.  If you are taking a day trip anywhere, and know there will be crowds, you should wear a mask.

Kids will want to see their friends; we must continue to avoid indoor playdates and sleepovers. Children and teens can spend time outside by a fire pit, with masks on. Continue to avoid sharing food with others. There are many outdoor and virtual events during vacation week in Massachusetts.

Our state’s public health officials are urging against nonessential out of state travel. Here are the District Travel Guidelines. When obtaining a test, the test must be a PCR test. Below is a list of local testing sites where you can book an appointment in advance. Turnaround time can be up to 48 hours, so please make sure that the result is available prior to your child’s first in-person learning day after the break. If your child has had a positive Covid-19 test 90 days prior to your travel and is asymptomatic, they will not need to obtain another test.

If you are traveling, by car or by airplane, please remember to continue to wear masks and distance when you are around people outside of your household during your trip. Avoid large gatherings and indoor activities that can increase the chances of acquiring Covid-19.

Sites, where appointments can be scheduled for asymptomatic travel testing, are listed below.

To receive your first test kit, the school nurse must receive a signed consent for pooled screening. This needs to be completed ONLY once for each child.

Samples should be collected in the morning before coming to school.

Cohort B collection is on Thursdays.

February Vacation Food Pick Up

During February vacation, our Food Services team will be distributing meals on Monday, February 15, 2021, from 11 to 1 pm at Algonquin Regional High School, Trottier Middle School, and Melican Middle School.

We appreciate our Food Services team for preparing the meals and working harder than ever to make this program a success. The remote learning pick-up program has supported hundreds of students and we want that support to be consistent.

The greater the participation the more financial benefit to our Food Service Program. We are only able to collect reimbursement for the meal if it is picked up or served to a student while in school.

School meals continue to be free to everyone from ages 0 - 22. Participants do not have to be students and can live in other communities. We would like to see more families participate in this program for both in-person and remote learning.
