Superintendent's Weekly Update (1/8/2021)
Weekly Update: Friday, January 8, 2021
Screening Results: Overview of COVID-19 Screening Results
Over the past two months, The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough provided weekly COVID-19 PCR testing to all faculty and staff. Furthermore, prior to December break, all Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) students were provided with an opportunity to take a COVID-19 PCR test. This opportunity was afforded to ARHS students again this past Monday, January 4, 2021, and Tuesday, January 5, 2021. The District’s nursing team has done an amazing job implementing weekly COVID-19 testing.
To date, the District has administered 3,417 Staff COVID-19 PCR screening tests since September 2020, which have resulted in eleven positive cases. Four of the cases were asymptomatic and seven cases were symptomatic.
The 1048 COVID-19 PCR tests administered to ARHS students resulted in three positive results. One case was asymptomatic and two cases were symptomatic.
District Launching COVID-19 Weekly Testing Opportunity for all Students and Staff
The results of the NSBORO Covid-19 Screening Program Interest Survey demonstrated that there is a strong interest in families having their children participate in weekly COVID-19 screening.
For the past three months, the District, in partnership with the Medical Advisory Team (MAT), has worked to establish weekly COVID-19 screening for all students, faculty, and staff.
I am pleased to announce that a no-cost COVID-19 PCR weekly screening will be available to all students enrolled in The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough through the end of the school year.
In the next week, or two, Mary Ellen Duggan, Director of Health and Wellness, the MAT, and I will communicate more detailed information about the program, including the type of COVID-19 test, how it will be administered, and how families can participate.

Updated District Quarantine and Travel Guidelines
Recently, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Department of Public Health (DPH) updated their guidelines for quarantine and travel. After consulting with the District’s Medical Advisory Team (MAT), and revisiting the District’s quarantine and travel requirements, a recommendation was made at the Combined School Committee meeting to better align the District’s quarantine and travel requirements with the CDC and DPH. On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, the Northborough, Southborough, and Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committees approved the updated requirements. I’d like to point out that there are differences from the District’s requirements compared to the CDCs. I encourage families to reach out to our school nurses or Mary Ellen Duggan, Director of Health and Wellness if you have any specific questions. I also want to thank families for their continued support and diligence in helping keep our students, faculty, and staff safe.
