Holiday Travel Information
Thank you for your ongoing support in promoting health and safety in all of our schools.
In keeping with our reopening goal of creating the lowest risk environment for our school communities, we require a 14-day quarantine when students or staff travel outside of the lower risk states.
We realize the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ COVID-19 Travel Order allows for proof of a negative test within 72 hours of arrival in Massachusetts or a 14-day quarantine. The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough does not allow for testing out of this quarantine. The reason for this is when traveling outside of your home community to an area of higher community spread, your risk of coming in contact with COVID-19 increases. The incubation period after exposure to the virus is from 2 - 14 days. By enforcing the 14-day quarantine for travel outside of the lower risk states, we are promoting a lower risk environment for our in-school students and staff.
Guests who travel to Massachusetts from higher-risk states need to fill out a Travel Form and have proof of a negative test result within 72 hours of travel to Massachusetts or quarantine for 14 days. As long as your guests follow the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ COVID-19 Travel Order guidelines, you as the host do not need to quarantine.
If you have questions about travel plans, please reach out to your school nurse and administration.
Please note, the governor issued a recent order reducing the limit of gatherings at private residences. Indoor gatherings at private residences are limited to 10 people and outdoor gatherings at private residences are limited to 25 people. Here are some Tips for Safer Gatherings from the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Please remember, if you need to access COVID-19 testing, Massachusetts offers many free testing sites throughout the state at Stop the Spread Sites.
As always, thank you for promoting a lower risk environment for all students and staff involved with in-person learning throughout the pandemic and upcoming holiday season.
