Professional Development Overview - 2019-2020
In the 2019-2020 academic year, educators will be engaged in two building-based Professional Development (PD) days, a District Professional Development Day, a teacher return day, and six hours of professional development.
Day 1: August 26, 2019 - District Professional Development Day (District Gathering, Mandatory Training, and Faculty Meetings)
Day 2: August 27, 2019 - Professional Development Day (Teacher Return Day)
Day 3: November 5, 2019 - Building-Based Professional Development Day
Day 4: March 3, 2020 -District Professional Development Day
Day 5: Converted to six hours of PD to be completed between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020.
This year the District is implementing a new PD concept, which is converting the fifth PD day to six PD hours. We applaud the Associations' willingness to think outside the traditional PD structure, as the conversion of a PD day to hours represents a new PD pathway for Northborough, Southborough, and Northborough-Southborough educators. This provides educators with opportunities to personalize and align PD directly with a professional learning, student learning, school improvement, or strategic plan goal. Furthermore, the PD can align directly with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education re-licensure requirements.
To provide guidance on the six hours of PD, the District Professional Development Committee created a framework on how to organize and complete the six hours of learning. We want to thank the PDC and the Associations for their input and feedback in the development of this framework. Our first year of implementation (2018-2019) was a great success.
